Team P.E.I. Canada Games officials announce Summerside’s Logan MacDougall as flag bearer

Logan MacDougall will carry the Prince Edward Island flag during the 2017 Canada Summer Games opening ceremony this week.

The Summerside native will participat­e in baseball during Week 1 and indoor volleyball for Week 2 of the July 28 to Aug. 13 games in Winnipeg. The opening ceremony will be this Friday, July 28 at 9 p.m. and broadcast live from Winnipeg’s Bell MTS Place.

“To be named the flag bearer for P.E.I. is a huge honour for me – it’s very special because I’m representi­ng much more than myself, my team and my city – I get to represent the entire province,” MacDougall said. “I put on the P.E.I. uniform in any sport I play and wear it with a ton of pride, much like any athlete on Team P.E.I. I’m thrilled to be given the opportunit­y to represent all these great Island athletes at the Canada Games!”

MacDougall is the 17-yearold son of Dale and Krista MacDougall. He is a three-time male athlete of the year from Three Oaks High School and the 2016 Volleyball P.E.I. under-16 male athlete of the year.

He has represente­d P.E.I. at the baseball nationals from 2013 to 2016. MacDougall is a Sport P.E.I. 2016-17 scholarshi­p recipient, a 2017 Craswell-MacLean Memorial Bursary winner from Baseball P.E.I., and will be attending the University of Calgary in the fall to play baseball.

His younger brother, Ben, is also playing on the baseball and indoor volleyball teams at the 2017 Canada Games.

“Logan and the entire Team P.E.I. delegation have worked long and hard to prepare for these games,” Health and Wellness Minister Robert Henderson said. “We are so proud of the skill and determinat­ion of our athletes, coaches and mission staff who are great ambassador­s from our province to the rest of the country. Good luck and let the games begin.”

Team P.E.I.’s delegation numbers 316 individual­s including 231 athletes, 60 coaches, managers and support staff, and 15 mission staff.
