Park­dale fun day to­day

Res­i­dents are wel­come to come out and meet their neigh­bours to­day, 5-7 p.m., at J. Frank McAu­lay Park on Spring Lane dur­ing the 16th an­nual Park­dale Fun Day.

The an­nual sum­mer get to­gether in the neigh­bour­hood of Park­dale is free of charge and will fea­ture lots of mu­si­cal en­ter­tain­ment. On the menu will be hot dogs and mus­sels plus straw­ber­ries and ice cream and home­made cook­ies that will be served at the can­teen next the Spring Lane Ball Field. There will be chil­dren’s en­ter­tain­ment and bingo. En­ter­tain­ment will be pro­vided by the McGarry Boys.

Mayor Clif­ford Lee and mem­bers of Char­lot­te­town city coun­cil will be on hand. The event is hosted by the Park­dale and Area Fun Group.

Char­lot­te­town Is­lan­ders cen­tre Matthew Grouchy will also take part in a meet and greet. The 17-year old Labrador City, N.L., na­tive played his rookie sea­son in the Que­bec Ma­jor Ju­nior Hockey League last year af­ter be­ing taken in the sixth round of the league draft in 2015. He played in 62 games scor­ing 11 goals and adding 17 as­sists for 28 points. He had 2 goals and an as­sist in 12 play­off games dur­ing the spring.

3T Tran­sit is pro­vid­ing a bus for trans­porta­tion for se­nior ci­ti­zens and others who will be com­ing from group homes from the area for the evening.

In case of rain it will be held on Aug. 4, 5-7 p.m., at the same lo­ca­tion.
