Young nat­u­ral­ist wins award

Rock Barra Artist Re­treat Sup­port for the Arts Award

Shal­lom Tarzan was re­cently pre­sented with the an­nual Rock Barra Artist Re­treat Sup­port for the Arts Award as well as rec­og­nized as vol­un­teer of the year.

The award is pre­sented to some­one who is both a sup­porter of the arts and who brings aware­ness, im­por­tance and vis­i­bil­ity to the role of art and artists in P.E.I. cul­ture and com­mu­ni­ties. The award is also given to some­one who has a di­rect con­nec­tion with the re­treat and has shown ex­em­plary em­bod­i­ment of Rock Barra Artist Re­treat’s val­ues and prin­ci­ples.

Tarzan is a nat­u­ral­ist, teacher of western wild herbal­ism and al­ter­na­tive liv­ing with na­ture, an eco-friendly artist and mu­si­cian. He has art and medic­i­nals for pur­chase both on his web­site and of­ten at lo­cal mar­kets.

He is a tire­less vol­un­teer, log­ging many hours and of­fer­ing his knowl­edge of plants and na­ture. He guides na­ture for­ag­ing walks and knows the re­treat’s land, woods, shore­line very well. He also of­fers re­treat fa­cil­i­ta­tion and per­for­mance at the re­treat.

“It is an hon­our to have a vol­un­teer like Shal­lom Tarzan, a young man from a new gen­er­a­tion of ac­tive, en­gaged young adults who are not only learn­ing about their land and sea but are also pro­tect­ing it and ed­u­cat­ing oth­ers on na­ture’s medicines and of­fer­ings,” said El­iza Knock­wood, chair­woman of the Rock Barra Artist Re­treat Co-op­er­a­tive.
