Rock Barra Artist Retreat Support for the Arts Award
Shallom Tarzan was recently presented with the annual Rock Barra Artist Retreat Support for the Arts Award as well as recognized as volunteer of the year.
The award is presented to someone who is both a supporter of the arts and who brings awareness, importance and visibility to the role of art and artists in P.E.I. culture and communities. The award is also given to someone who has a direct connection with the retreat and has shown exemplary embodiment of Rock Barra Artist Retreat’s values and principles.
Tarzan is a naturalist, teacher of western wild herbalism and alternative living with nature, an eco-friendly artist and musician. He has art and medicinals for purchase both on his website and often at local markets.
He is a tireless volunteer, logging many hours and offering his knowledge of plants and nature. He guides nature foraging walks and knows the retreat’s land, woods, shoreline very well. He also offers retreat facilitation and performance at the retreat.
“It is an honour to have a volunteer like Shallom Tarzan, a young man from a new generation of active, engaged young adults who are not only learning about their land and sea but are also protecting it and educating others on nature’s medicines and offerings,” said Eliza Knockwood, chairwoman of the Rock Barra Artist Retreat Co-operative.
