Workshop for Aug. 12-13

-

A writing workshop featuring methods of juxtaposition will be held in Charlottetown in midAugust.

Isabel Huggan, who has given writing workshops around the world, will conduct the workshop Aug. 12 and 13.

This is Huggan’s second workshop in Charlottetown sponsored by the P.E.I. Writers’ Guild.

Her upcoming workshop is suitable for writers of fiction, memoir and poetry.

Huggan has arranged her exercises to allow participants to end on Saturday with a first draft. For those wishing to go further, the half-day on Sunday will allow time for sharing and beginning the process of revision.

The writing exercises – putting things together in unexpected ways - stimulate creativity by juxtaposing seemingly unrelated images, events, memories and ideas.

“The element of surprise is one of our most effective writing tools,” says Huggan.

This workshop offers methods for gaining access to good material and using it in a new and creative manner. Participants will begin with word-collage, idea-layering, image-filtering and random connections.

“They will end up with pages of wonderful new writing which will astonish them,” says Huggan.
