Tour salutes fe­male com­posers

Ear­lier this year, Toronto based so­prano Clarisse Toni­gussi ob­served that Cana­dian women’s com­po­si­tions were not be­ing given the full at­ten­tion they de­served.

Toni­gussi be­gan the Cana­dian Women Com­posers (CWC) recital tour ini­tia­tive in hopes that this would change.

The Cana­dian Women Com­posers project presents so­prano soloist Toni­gussi and pi­anist Stephanie Cole in recital, fea­tur­ing the mu­sic of Cana­dian women com­posers.

In an hour-long recital, vo­cal reper­toire that has been over­looked in the past can be heard, ap­pre­ci­ated, and rec­og­nized. The works high­lighted on the recital will be per­formed in his­tor­i­cal or­der and will be­gin with songs writ­ten in the early 1900’s. The con­cert will end with a newly com­mis­sioned work based on Anne of Green Gables quotes.

The recitals will take place on Wed­nes­day, Aug. 2 at 12 Noon at St. James Pres­by­te­rian Church and Satur­day, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. at Mil­ton Com­mu­nity Hall.

Do­na­tions ac­cepted for the St. James Pres­by­te­rian Church con­cert. Tick­ets $15 tick­ets at the door for Mil­ton Com­mu­nity Hall.
