Brennans show speed in PCE Run
Gamble, Profit lead way in 10K
Jennifer Pizio-Perry interrupted a Brennan family 5K sweep of the top three placings in the Prince County Exhibition’s 5 and 10K Run on Saturday.
Morgan Brennan, 16, finished first in a time of 23 minutes 54 seconds (23:54). His 11-year-old brother, Maguire, was one second back, and right on his heels, in 23:56, was the race’s top female, Pizio-Perry.
For Pizio-Perry, it was her first race in more than a year following a transition of sorts to cross-fit training.
The Brennan brothers’ mother, Lucille, who was the second female finisher, fourth overall in a time of 25:11, said it was good to have Pizio-Perry near the lead as it pushed her sons to run harder.
“I was trying to stay ahead of Jen,” Maguire said in agreeing she helped provide the push. He actually led his older brother for much of the race.
“Until we could see (the finish line), and then I started going fast,” Morgan admitted. Maguire stayed on his heels the rest of the way. Pizio-Perry followed closely, shouting encouragement.
This year the exhibition offered a new course, entirely on the Confederation Trail, starting and ending at the Old Stone Station. There were eight runners in the 5K and seven in the 10K.
The Western Region Sport and Recreation Council helped co-ordinate the event.
Top 10K runners were
David Gamble in 43:45, and Maria Profit in
44:50.
