The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals will have lots of opportunit­ies to become familiar with each other early in the season.

The Capitals will play 10 of their first 15 regular-season games in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) on the road. The Caps will raise the curtain on the 2017-18 campaign on Sept. 16 in Woodstock against the Slammers. Ironically, the Slammers will provide the opposition for the Caps’ home opener at Eastlink Arena on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.

Overall, the teams will play a 50-game regular season. Teams will face teams within their division six times and teams in the other division three times. All teams will play two games in the MHL Showcase in Summerside on Oct. 10 and 11, and A breakdown of Western Capitals’ home games: Thursdays (7 p.m.) – 13. Saturdays (7 p.m.) – 7. Sundays (6 p.m.) – 2. Mondays (2 p.m.) – 2. Note: The Caps will play two league games in Summerside on Oct. 10 and 11 as part of the MHL Showcase.

those contests will count in the standings.

New Year’s Day

The Caps have revived an old tradition of hosting a New Year’s Day game this season. The Amherst Ramblers will provide the opposition for the 2 p.m. start.

The Caps will conclude the pre-Christmas scheduled in Woodstock on Dec. 16, and will resume play at home against Campbellto­n on Saturday, Dec. 30.

The Caps’ busiest month at home is January, when they host six games.

The Caps conclude the regular season on the road against the Miramichi Timberwolv­es on Saturday, March 10.
