The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford West­ern Cap­i­tals will have lots of op­por­tu­ni­ties to be­come fa­mil­iar with each other early in the sea­son.

The Cap­i­tals will play 10 of their first 15 reg­u­lar-sea­son games in the MHL (Mar­itime Ju­nior Hockey League) on the road. The Caps will raise the cur­tain on the 2017-18 cam­paign on Sept. 16 in Wood­stock against the Slam­mers. Iron­i­cally, the Slam­mers will pro­vide the op­po­si­tion for the Caps’ home opener at Eastlink Arena on Satur­day, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.

Over­all, the teams will play a 50-game reg­u­lar sea­son. Teams will face teams within their di­vi­sion six times and teams in the other di­vi­sion three times. All teams will play two games in the MHL Show­case in Summerside on Oct. 10 and 11, and A break­down of West­ern Cap­i­tals’ home games: Thurs­days (7 p.m.) – 13. Satur­days (7 p.m.) – 7. Sun­days (6 p.m.) – 2. Mon­days (2 p.m.) – 2. Note: The Caps will play two league games in Summerside on Oct. 10 and 11 as part of the MHL Show­case.

New Year’s Day

The Caps have re­vived an old tra­di­tion of host­ing a New Year’s Day game this sea­son. The Amherst Ram­blers will pro­vide the op­po­si­tion for the 2 p.m. start.

The Caps will con­clude the pre-Christ­mas sched­uled in Wood­stock on Dec. 16, and will re­sume play at home against Camp­bell­ton on Satur­day, Dec. 30.

The Caps’ busiest month at home is Jan­uary, when they host six games.

The Caps con­clude the reg­u­lar sea­son on the road against the Mi­ramichi Tim­ber­wolves on Satur­day, March 10.
