It is with love and sadness, that the family of Leonard Frederick McCardle announce his peaceful passing at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017. Leonard was born in Chelton, P.E.I. and lived there until his death. Born to the late Daniel and Evangeline (nee Cahill) McCardle, as a young boy, Leonard worked the family farm with his parents and eight brothers and sisters. This is where his love of the land, ocean and Chelton became part of his fibre. Leonard had a long career with Marine Atlantic, working on the ferries between Borden P.E.I and Cape Tormentine, N.B. During retirement, Leonard fulfilled his dream to be a world traveler, spending time in places such as Russia, England, Germany, Panama Canal, and the Middle East where he immersed himself in the culture of each city he visited. Known for his strong faith in God, his nightly walks throughout Chelton and Fernwood and his love of swimming daily off Chelton Beach, Leonard was well-known throughout the community. Survived by his sisters, Tizie Zinck and Annie Coughlan, brother David (Mary) McCardle, sister-in-law Audrey McCardle and numerous nieces and nephews. Predecease­d by his parents, brothers and sisters Pauline (Gerald) Sheridan, Virginia McCardle, George McCardle, John McCardle and Albert (Hazel) McCardle, brothers in-law Stan Zinck and Terence Coughlan. By personal request, no visitation will occur and a private funeral service will be held. Interment to take place in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Seven Mile Bay, P.E.I. The family would like to express their sincere appreciati­on for the wonderful care and attention by Prince County Hospital.
