During retirement, Leonard fulfilled his dream to be a world traveler, spending time in places such as Russia, England, Germany, Panama Canal, and the Middle East where he immersed himself in the culture of each city he visited. Known for his strong faith in God, his nightly walks throughout Chelton and Fernwood and his love of swimming daily off Chelton Beach, Leonard was well-known throughout the community. Survived by his sisters, Tizie Zinck and Annie Coughlan, brother David (Mary) McCardle, sister-in-law Audrey McCardle and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters Pauline (Gerald) Sheridan, Virginia McCardle, George McCardle, John McCardle and Albert (Hazel) McCardle, brothers in-law Stan Zinck and Terence Coughlan. By personal request, no visitation will occur and a private funeral service will be held. Interment to take place in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Seven Mile Bay, P.E.I. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care and attention by Prince County Hospital. If desired, memorial donations may be made, in Leonard’s memory, to St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Seven Mile Bay, P.E.I. Condolences can be emailed to epfuneral@eastlink.ca.
