Campbell extends CDP driving lead

Scores the fastest win of Thursday’s card with Nikes Cowgirl

Marc Campbell was on a roll again Thursday night at Red Shores at the Charlottet­own Driving Park.

The “King” of Island racing, Campbell scored the fastest win of the 12-dash card with Nikes Cowgirl recording a new lifetime mark of 1:55.3.

Campbell trains and drives for owner James Struthers of Port Morien, N.S. Campbell also recorded wins with Come On Eileen in 1:57.4 for trainer Trevor Hicken of Montague and Winr lose drnk dab ozei na new record of 1:58.3 for trainer Earl Watts of Hampshire.

Campbell leads all drivers with 68 wins so far this season in Charlottet­own.

Likely To Win captured the $2,000 featured pace in 1:56.1 with Adam Merner at the controls for trainer Melissa Rennie and Nova Scotia owners Blenise Young of Long Point and Lester Campbell of Judique along with Jeffrey Campbell of Calgary, Alta. Denver Dolly was second in the top class with Campbell in the bike while Narraganse­tt completed the triactor with Jason Hughes driving. Race broadcast co-host and analyst Bo Ford pitched the winning triactor and even the superfecta on the feature race to viewers and on track players.

Walter Cheverie recorded a driving double on the program, including a $1,850 Open trot victory with Osprey Impact in 1:58.3 for owner-trainer Paul Larrabee of Belle River. Second went to Freddie (Campbell) with Dusty Lane Jacob (Merner) third.

Gary Chappell had a pair of driving wins with Female Finesse in 1:58.3 for trainer William White of Murray River and with his own trainee, Now Whos The Queen, in 2:01.1.

Live racing continues Saturday in Charlottet­own at 6 p.m.
