Trio will be in medal match to­day at wrestling com­pe­ti­tion

Three Is­land wrestlers are a win a way from earn­ing a medal at the Canada Games in Win­nipeg.

Summerside’s Ben Tan­ton, Char­lot­te­town’s Jesse Heartz and Strat­ford’s Chris­tian Mac­Don­ald each fin­ished in the top four. A win in to­day’s first match means they ad­vance to the gold medal match while a loss gives them a shot at bronze.

The first match goes at noon At­lantic.


Strat­ford’s Jason Po­ley sits ninth in the men’s golf cham­pi­onship af­ter fir­ing a 1-un­der 71 dur­ing third-round play Thurs­day at the South­wood Golf and Coun­try Club.

He en­ters to­day’s fi­nal round with a 4-over 220 score. Christo­pher Charles Van­dette leads the pack at 210.

Char­lot­te­town’s Tyler Hashmi carded a 1-over 73 on Thurs­day and has a three-round score of 230. Nine Mile Creek’s Alex Tay­lor shot a 76 Thurs­day and is 235 af­ter three days of play.

The Is­land squad is eighth in the men’s team event at 448 while Que­bec leads at 421.

In women’s ac­tion, Kens­ing­ton’s Lexi Murphy shot a 94 to lead the Is­land con­tin­gent. She has im­proved her score each of

the three rounds.

Summerside’s Mya Chisholm shot a 95 and is sit­ting at 295 head­ing to the fi­nal round while Summerside’s Reese Mac­Don­ald shot a 101 for 306 af­ter three rounds.


P.E.I. lost 3-1 to Saskatchewan and will play the North­west Ter­ri­to­ries to­day at 3:30 p.m. in a plac­ing game.

Dono­van Wyand scored off a Jensen Gauthier cor­ner kick in in­jury time against Saskatchewan.


P.E.I. beat the North­west Ter­ri­to­ries 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 25-18, 25-15) in men’s vol­ley­ball plac­ing ac­tion on Thurs­day.

They play New Brunswick to­day at 10:30 a.m. At­lantic.


P.E.I. split a pair of games in the women’s softball com­pe­ti­tion on Thurs­day, beat­ing New Brunswick 8-1 and los­ing 5-0 to On­tario.

They are 2-6 head­ing to to­day’s games against Nova Sco­tia at noon.

Jada Yeo, Madi­son Clarke, Sarah Woodside and Clara Wood each had two hits against New Brunswick. Kai­ley Koughan had a triple while Emily Cairns and Vanessa Ren­nie each sin­gled.

Alyssa Flem­ing al­lowed a run on five hits in 4 1/3 in­nings. She walked two and struck out two. Emily Broth­ers gave up four hits ands truck out two in 2 2/3 in­nings of re­lief.

P.E.I. led 2-0 through four in­nings be­fore adding two in the fifth, one in the sixth and three more in the sev­enth.

Lau­ryn De­bono struck out three in four in­nings for the win and com­bined with Tay­lor Rob­blee for a no-hit­ter. Syd­ney Hal­li­well took the loss, al­low­ing two runs on three hits in two in­nings.
