Gold Cup 5K Trot back for its 13th year

Get your­self a set of new laces be­cause pre-reg­is­tra­tion is open for the Gold Cup Trot 5K road race Friday, Aug. 18 in Char­lot­te­town.

The race starts at 9:40 a.m. in Vic­to­ria Park and runs along much of the Gold Cup Pa­rade route while the pa­rade, which starts at 10 a.m., is progress. Run­ners can ex­pe­ri­ence a large crowd cheer­ing them on as they make their way around the course.

The course record of :14:50 was set in 2016, in what is the fastest 5K road race ever held on P.E.I., by Lee Wes­selius of River Glade, N.B.

Grace An­n­ear of New Brunswick set the women’s course record of :18:36 back in 2011.

Run­ners can pre-reg­is­ter at Proude’s Shoes in the Sherwood Plaza un­til store clos­ing on Thurs­day, Aug. 17. There will also be reg­is­tra­tion on race day start­ing at 8 a.m. at the Vic­to­ria Park ball di­a­mond club house. Pre-reg­is­tered run­ners are en­tered in to a draw for a pair of run­ning shoes.

Cost is $15 per run­ner, $50 for a fam­ily of four and $10 for each ad­di­tional run­ner. All pro­ceeds go to Easter Seals P.E.I.
