-

Get yourself a set of new laces because pre-registration is open for the Gold Cup Trot 5K road race Friday, Aug. 18 in Charlottetown.

The race starts at 9:40 a.m. in Victoria Park and runs along much of the Gold Cup Parade route while the parade, which starts at 10 a.m., is progress. Runners can experience a large crowd cheering them on as they make their way around the course.

The course record of :14:50 was set in 2016, in what is the fastest 5K road race ever held on P.E.I., by Lee Wesselius of River Glade, N.B.

Grace Annear of New Brunswick set the women’s course record of :18:36 back in 2011.

Runners can pre-register at Proude’s Shoes in the Sherwood Plaza until store closing on Thursday, Aug. 17. There will also be registration on race day starting at 8 a.m. at the Victoria Park ball diamond club house. Pre-registered runners are entered in to a draw for a pair of running shoes.

Cost is $15 per runner, $50 for a family of four and $10 for each additional runner. All proceeds go to Easter Seals P.E.I.
