It’s ‘Complicated’ but fun
Canadian entertainer Mary Walsh brings new show to P.E.I.
Mary Walsh is bringing her “Canada, It’s Complicated’’ tour to P.E.I. in September.
The “This Hour Has 22 Minutes’’ and “Codco’’ star will make appearances in Charlottetown, Summerside and Georgetown.
Featuring sketches and satirical songs that examine the joys, foibles, tragedies and triumphs of Canada as it is today and into the future, the show was written by some of the country’s leading comedians, musicians and playwrights.
It stars a diverse cast of young, up-and-coming performers representing a variety of diverse cultural backgrounds.
As part of a cross-Canada tour, the show will be in Charlottetown at The Mack on Sept. 28 (school show is Sept. 29), Summerside at Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre on Sept. 27 and at Kings Playhouse (public and school show) on Sept. 30.
Evolving in real time to incorporate filmed performances and interviews shot in each region with local residents, “Canada, It’s Complicated’’ combines an original soundscape with a multimedia stage experience.
This multimedia approach also follows the production to schools around the country where, following a free show, students will participate in comedy workshops and be encouraged to present their own version of a “Canada, It’s Complicated’’ show to their peers.
Their work will then be posted online to form a digital collection representing their shared experience of being Canadian in 2017, creating an online legacy that will be featured on multiple social media platforms.
