To­day’s un­der­card features stakes races for three-year-olds

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - SPORTS - BY NICHOLAS OAKES Nicholas Oakes is cov­er­ing Old Home Week rac­ing for The Guardian, cul­mi­nat­ing with the Gold Cup and Saucer Race on Aug. 19.

Old Home Week rac­ing of­fi­cially kicked off Fri­day evening and Satur­day hosts the first dou­ble­header of the week at the Char­lot­te­town Driv­ing Park.

The At­lantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pac­ing fil­lies takes cen­tre stage on the Satur­day af­ter­noon pro­gram start­ing at 1 p.m. with $9,300 A-di­vi­sions in Races 7, 9 and 11.

Elek­tra Ex­press only has one blem­ish on her win record, and that was still a third-place fin­ish. She will look to ex­pand her bankroll in Race 9 from Post 4 with trainer Marc Camp­bell at the lines for owner Dan­ica El­lis of Brook­field, N.S.

Race 7 has fel­low Camp­bell trainee Filly Forty Seven favoured from Post 2 with the trainer in the bike for own­ers Dar­ryl Ma­cLean of Winsloe, Tanya Trem­blett of Syd­ney Mines, N.S., Cory Carver of Mon­tague and Kate­lyn Small­wood of Strat­ford.

Glen­view Pais­ley showed in her lat­est out­ing that she can keep up with Elek­tra Ex­press and that earns her morn­ing line favourite sta­tus in the fi­nal di­vi­sion in Race 11.

Ernie Laf­fin drives the daugh­ter of Im­machu­late for trainer Dave Carey and owner Ron­ald Har­ris of Truro, N.S.

There will be three $2,500 Bd­vi­sions for the three-year-old fil­lies in Races 4, 6 and 8.


The evening card has a 7 p.m. start time with the first elim­i­na­tion of the Sobey’s Gold Cup and Saucer cap­ping off the ac­tion in the Race 12 fi­nale.

Other Satur­day evening ac­tion has a pair of $2,500 Open Mares paces with the top four from each event get­ting a call for a Mares In­vi­ta­tional pace on Gold Cup and Saucer night.

Ram­blinglily is the favourite in the first class in Race 8 but has to over­come Post 8 with Wal­ter Chev­erie driv­ing for New Brunswick res­i­dent Al­lan Jones and Nor­mand Leger as the mare rides an eight-race win streak.

Pret­tyn­dan­ger­ous is favoured off the rail in the other Open Mares Pace in Race 11 with Adam Merner leav­ing off the rail for trainer and co-owner Bo Ford and co-owner Arnold My­ers of Char­lot­te­town.

A hard-hit­ting field of pac­ers line up in Race 10 in the $2,550 Pre­ferred pace. Elm Grove Ka­boom is the morn­ing line choice for trainer-driver Earl Smith and own­ers Larry and Kathy Chap­pell of Marsh­field.

D Gs Camme, a Gold Cup and Saucer fi­nal­ist in 2015 and 2016, has Post 5 with Gilles Bar­rieau at the lines.

No­great­mis­chief has a tworace win streak on the line from Post 1 with Chev­erie driv­ing and Gov­er­nor’s Plate con­so­la­tion win­ner

His Boy El­roy has Post 2 for trainer-driver Bernard McCal­lum.
