Pacing fillies take centre stage in CDP racing doubleheader

Today’s undercard features stakes races for three-year-olds

Old Home Week racing officially kicked off Friday evening and Saturday hosts the first doubleheader of the week at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies takes centre stage on the Saturday afternoon program starting at 1 p.m. with $9,300 A-divisions in Races 7, 9 and 11.

Elektra Express only has one blemish on her win record, and that was still a third-place finish. She will look to expand her bankroll in Race 9 from Post 4 with trainer Marc Campbell at the lines for owner Danica Ellis of Brookfield, N.S.

Race 7 has fellow Campbell trainee Filly Forty Seven favoured from Post 2 with the trainer in the bike for owners Darryl MacLean of Winsloe, Tanya Tremblett of Sydney Mines, N.S., Cory Carver of Montague and Katelyn Smallwood of Stratford.

Glenview Paisley showed in her latest outing that she can keep up with Elektra Express and that earns her morning line favourite status in the final division in Race 11.

Ernie Laffin drives the daughter of Immachulate for trainer Dave Carey and owner Ronald Harris of Truro, N.S.

There will be three $2,500 Bdvisions for the three-year-old fillies in Races 4, 6 and 8.

Evening

The evening card has a 7 p.m. start time with the first elimination of the Sobey’s Gold Cup and Saucer capping off the action in the Race 12 finale.

Other Saturday evening action has a pair of $2,500 Open Mares paces with the top four from each event getting a call for a Mares Invitational pace on Gold Cup and Saucer night.

Ramblinglily is the favourite in the first class in Race 8 but has to overcome Post 8 with Walter Cheverie driving for New Brunswick resident Allan Jones and Normand Leger as the mare rides an eight-race win streak.

Prettyndangerous is favoured off the rail in the other Open Mares Pace in Race 11 with Adam Merner leaving off the rail for trainer and co-owner Bo Ford and co-owner Arnold Myers of Charlottetown.

A hard-hitting field of pacers line up in Race 10 in the $2,550 Preferred pace. Elm Grove Kaboom is the morning line choice for trainer-driver Earl Smith and owners Larry and Kathy Chappell of Marshfield.

D Gs Camme, a Gold Cup and Saucer finalist in 2015 and 2016, has Post 5 with Gilles Barrieau at the lines.

Nogreatmischief has a tworace win streak on the line from Post 1 with Cheverie driving and Governor’s Plate consolation winner

His Boy Elroy has Post 2 for trainer-driver Bernard McCallum.
