Stratford pounds Brewers

Morell Chevies sweep doublehead­er in KCBL action

Dan O’Shea went the distance and struck out 11 batters as The Alley Stratford Athletics defeated the Morell Northside Brewers 12-2 in six innings Sunday in Kings County Baseball League action.

O’Shea also limited the Brewers to two hits.

Losing pitcher was Jason MacLean with relief from Matt Myers.

Jonathan Arsenault, Allister Smith and Corey Dougay were Stratford’s top batters with three hits each while Mitch Ryan and Seth Nicholson had the hits for the Brewers.

Chevies 6, Cardigan 5 Chevies 6, Cardigan 4

In Morell on Friday night, the Morell Chevies took a pair of games against the Cardigan Clippers, taking the first game 6-5 win in 10 innings.

That completed a game that had been called earlier in the season after eight innings due to darkness.

In the nightcap, the Chevies broke out to a 6-0 lead and survived a four-run sixth inning by Cardigan to win 6-4.

In the first game, a Desi Doyle single off Clipper pitcher Charles MacLellan in the top of the 10 inning scored Logan Gallant with the winning run.

Gallant, who had relieved starter Brett Hicken, picked up the win. Cole MacLaren had four hits to pace the Chevies while Ben Doucette had three hits for the Clippers.

In the second game, Taylor Larkin went the distance for the win, striking out eight, while MacLellan took the loss, with relief from Colin MacInytre and Dean Carroll.

For the Chevies, Logan Gallant, Stephen O’Shea and Troy Coffin picked up two hits apiece while Morgan MacAree, Carroll and Jed Walsh had RBI singles in the Clipper four run sixth inning.
