Is cenotaph next to go?

-

Considering the madness in the U.S.A. over statues being torn down in a silly attempt to erase history, the question arises, can it happen in Canada? Are there surrogates of this mind set in our Island community?

Over the years I have read in The Guardian veiled suggestions that war memorials glorify war. Will the current herd and placard waving mentality call on the Charlottetown City Council, the provincial government and the Royal Canadian Legion to remove the war memorial on Grafton Street at Great George Street?

What will the answer be should the request be made?

War memorials are places where thousands of Islanders gather once a year to grieve for the loss of family, friends and all members of the community who served and many who met the supreme sacrifice. Shall we be denied? Shall history be denied?

Will there be requests to remove Prime Minister Sir Robert Borden’s statue in Ottawa, Canada’s greatest wartime leader? Does anyone believe this fine Canadian glorified war?

It is with sadness I have come to realize that there are those in our communities so self-centred to

“Yes, children are still being abused today and the only way to stop this is for people to speak out. “Anne Gallant

care only for themselves and who feel determined to impose their will on others.
