P.E.I. Sen. Mike Duffy is suing the RCMP and the Senate for more than $7.8 million in damages for the way they handled accusations about his expenses.

WE ASKED:

What is your reaction to the announcement that Sen. Mike Duffy’s is suing the RCMP and the Senate?

Peter Raven Alliston, P.E.I.

“Basically I think that he may not have been guilty of a criminal offence but he is definitely guilty of a moral offence. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to realize where you live permanently and where you live parttime, and he definitely didn’t live permanently on the Island.”

Debbie Drake Vernon Bridge, P.E.I.

“I think it’s utterly ridiculous. It’s scandalous.”

Brianna Richardson Halifax (originally from Hunter River, P.E.I.)

“He was acquitted because of not substantial evidence, I guess, or no grounds, but still to come back and to sue the RCMP and the Senate… What possible implication does that mean for Canadians? Are we going to pay for it through our taxes?”

Jon Waugh Montague, P.E.I.

“If he wants $8 million, he’s pretty greedy. There is not that much damage to warrant $8 million.”

Kevin Brooks Charlottetown

“If it was proven true, it makes sense that he’d be compensated, but it should only be salary plus possible future salary. It seems unlikely to me that he would have lost $8 million of income and future income so it seems excessive for that reason.”
