Six teams vying for provincial midget title beginning today

It’s title time for the midget division as the Baseball P.E.I. midget championsh­ips step up to the plate today through Sunday in Stratford, Charlottet­own and Freetown.

First pitch for today’s opening game between the Cardigan-Northside Clippers and the Stratford A’s goes at noon at lower MacNeill Field in Stratford.

Other venues being used are at Memorial Field in Charlottet­own and Kowalski Field in Freetown.

Play continues Saturday at 9 a.m. at Memorial Field, at noon in Stratford, and at 5 p.m. at Kowalski Field.

Sunday’s semifinals go at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., followed by the championsh­ip game at 3 p.m. All games are at MacNeill Field.

Teams play each other twice in pool action. The top two teams in each division go to the semis.

The Summerside One Chevys (10-4) come in as the top seed in the East Division, while Cardigan-Northside (9-4-1) and Stratford (5-8-1) are second and third, respective­ly.

In the West Division, the Western Mariners (10-4) have the top spot. The Charlottet­own Royals (7-6-1) and the Summerside Two Chevys (3-10-1) come in as the second and third seeds, respective­ly.

The provincial winner joins host Stratford at the Baseball Atlantic 18-and-under AA championsh­ips Sept. 1-3 in Stratford and Charlottet­own.
