Top drawer talent plays in Mont-Carmel
The time has come to present the last of nine shows in the 10th anniversary Sunday night Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series.
Raphaël Butler, Dave Gunning and the group DOC made up of Mylène Ouellette, Brent Chaisson and Anastasia DesRoches will take the stage of the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall beginning at 7 p.m. They will be joined by step dancer Mélodie Jordan.
The doors of the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall (5786 Route 11, Mont-Carmel) open at 6:15 p.m. The public is invited to come early because seating is limited. There will also be a 50/50 draw and a canteen. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for members of the co-operative, $5 for students and free for preschoolers.
A graduate from the École nationale de la chanson and finalist at the Festival International de la chanson de Granby, Butler is among the upand-coming artists on the East Coast. His songs, which he describes as simple and authentic, are about what surrounds him, what he’s been through and what he knows. In 2015, he released an EP entitled “J’feel comme une machine”, which earned him a few hits, including “Harley 1970” and “Ma douce restée au Canada”, two singles that reached number one on New Brunswick community radio stations in both 2015 and 2016. Since the release of his album he has performed over 100 shows in Atlantic Canada.
A world-class songwriter, Gunning captivates audiences by painting pictures through his heartfelt stories and compelling songwriting, humorous lyrics and musical arrangements. Blending sensitive folk and innovative arrangements to his original songs, he has built a solid fan base across Canada and abroad. He currently has 11 albums to his credit and was the recipient of numerous ECMA Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards and Music N.S. Awards.
The members of DOC have been playing music together for many years. Their debut recording garnered ECMA and Music P.E.I. award nominations.Individually and with other groups, they have played on many stages across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. They play a mix of their own compositions, music composed by friends and traditional Acadian and Celtic music.
Throughout the course of the evening, Jordan will step dance to the sound of their melodies.
