-

Harp and guitar duo Lana Quinn and Byron Olsen will sing original songs and perform traditional melodies at a ceilidh on Aug. 27 at the Bonshaw Hall from 7-9 p.m.

Other performers will be The Long River Players (Pete Blanding, Gayle Murphy, Gary Arsenault, Cindy Blanding), singer Carl Wigmore, step dancers Lexi and Tasha Kowalchuk and local musicians Andrea Corder, Herb MacDonald, Phil Pineau and /or Tony the Troubador.

There will also be a 50/50 draw, lunch and open stage time. All ages are welcome. The event is accessible for small wheelchairs.

Admission is by donation with the proceeds going to the Auret Family Fire Fund.

Quinn and Olsen sing about the sand dunes along P.E.I.’s north shore, the silver sage on the hills of Saskatchewan’s river valleys, the magic of fireflies in June and an unusual hockey game.

They also perform tunes written by Irish composer Turlough O’Carolan.

Together they create an ethereal yet upbeat sound with Quinn’s 36 string Celtic harp and soprano voice and Olsen’s blues guitar and vocals.

Quinn grew up in Charlottetown surrounded by the influences of its Irish-Scottish roots and the folk music of the 1970’s and 1980’s.

In 2000, she bought a 36-string Celtic harp and has been featured at many concerts and special events.

Olsen grew up in Prince Albert and became fascinated with guitar and technology as a teenager.

He has been performing professionally since 1972 and is best known as a singer/guitarist for the Saskatchewan band “Crooked Creek. He has also recorded and produced their four albums and has produced CD projects for other Saskatchewan artists.
