Surprise trip to P.E.I. from daughter leaves Texas woman with tears of joy

Lois Rosencutter couldn’t believe it was true.

This past November, the Texas woman’s daughter, Robyn Droddy, surprised her with an early Christmas present, and as she opened it, Rosencutter realized it was a trip to P.E.I.

When she spoke to The Guardian halfway through that trip recently, a smiling Rosencutter said it had lived up to all expectations.

“I’ll probably never get over this,” she said.

Rosencutter’s son-in-law caught the surprise on video in Splendora, Tex., when Droddy gave her mother a wrapped package.

As she tore the paper, the video caught Rosencutter’s look of surprise when she opened a folder to see the words “mother/ daughter trip 2017,” a photo of P.E.I. and their trip itinerary.

“Oh my God,” she said after realizing where the two were going.

Rosencutter flipped through the pages and wiped tears from her cheek as she asked her daughter if it was a joke.

By the end of the video, she was crying more tears of joy.

“I just don’t believe it,” she said on the video.

Back in P.E.I., Rosencutter said her daughter was quiet about planning the trip that caught her by surprise.

“Just woo, sprung it on me,” she said.

Droddy said when she was around 10 years old, she went to the doctor wearing a big sunflower hat and a nurse told her she looked like Anne of Green Gables.

She and her mother didn’t know who that was, so they checked the book out from the library and the two have loved Anne ever since, Droddy said.

That love drew them to P.E.I. where they went to see both of the musicals based on the character, along with other popular places, like Brackley Beach.

Droddy had been to P.E.I. before with her husband in 2015 but said she always wanted to make a mother-daughter trip. “It’s been fun,” she said. Rosencutter, who said she loved lighthouses, was excited about the province’s cliffs and being near the water.

Back home she lives a few hours away from the Gulf of Mexico.

“I just love being by ocean,” Rosencutter said.

The trip was such a success, Rosencutter joked about making another more permanent visit to P.E.I.

“We want to move here,” she said. the
