Ceilidh in the City celebrates country music on Aug. 30

-

The summer nights are getting cooler, but the music is still cooking at the Ceilidh in the City in Charlottetown.

The Aug. 30 show promises to be another crowd-pleaser with two of the Island’s finest female country singers joining as special guests: Susan Campbell and Keila Glydon.

Campbell has been performing on P.E.I. for many years in a long list of groups and duo’s, often noted as the closest thing to Patsy Cline. Folks have been overheard after her performances claiming, “if you closed your eyes you would swear that Patsy was in the building”. With a large repertoire of music and power vocals she has been a crowd-pleaser several times over the years at the Ceilidh In the City.

Glydon has recently been associated with a group of Island women who have been presenting The Lady Singers of The Century, a popular show touring the Island. Glydon plays a number of parts, with audiences particularly enjoying her renditions of a number of country classics.

Glydon and Campbell will be joining the weekly hosts of the Ceilidh in the City — Kendall Docherty, Peter Burke, Brian Knox and Heartz Godkin — at the Jack Blanchard Family Centre, 7 Pond St. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., for general admission with tickets available at the door. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. There will be a canteen service operated by the catering staff from Holy Redeemer with all sorts of tasty treats available. There will also be a 50/50 draw in support of the Ceilidh Gives Back Fund, which supports several Island charities. This week money raised will be donated to Nathan Condon’s children’s fund, which has been set up following the death of the Island musician this past weekend.

Additional information on the ceilidh is at facebook.com/ CeilidhInTheCity or by calling Docherty at 902-569-1133 or Knox at 902-569-3327.
