Niall MacKay joins Gary Chip­man Band in New Lon­don

The sea­son fi­nale of the Pig and Whis­tle Dance takes place this evening at the New Lon­don Com­mu­nity Com­plex.

The Gary Chip­man Band, which is the house­band, will be joined by spe­cial guest Niall MacKay.

The Gary Chip­man Band con­sists of Chip­man on vo­cals, fid­dle and gui­tar, Blair Cough­lin, vo­cals/bass gui­tar, Ge­orge MacPhee on gui­tar, Or­rin Baird play­ing the sax­o­phone and Bob Gagnon on the drums.

The band fo­cuses its reper­toire on cov­ers of 1950s and 1960s rock ’n’ roll leg­ends Elvis Pres­ley, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Plat­ters, Chuck Berry and more.

Chip­man is a well-known Is­land mu­si­cian, hav­ing started his ca­reer on the Don Messer Live shows and tour­ing with Anna McGoldrick and Stompin’ Tom Con­nors. He’s also per­formed with artists such as Ron Hynes, Freddy Fender, The Car­leton Show­band, Dave Dud­ley, John Allen Cameron, Lu­cille Star, Michelle Wright and oth­ers.

“Sea­son 4 of the Pig and Whis­tle Dance has been fan­tas­tic – we started these dances four years ago to bring back ’50s and ’60s rock ’n’ roll to small com­mu­ni­ties across P.E.I.,” said Chip­man. “We greatly ap­pre­ci­ate the tremen­dous sup­port we have re­ceived from our loyal fol­low­ers and we look for­ward to Sea­son 5.”

There will be a 50/50 draw. The event sup­ports cys­tic fi­bro­sis and the New Lon­don Com­mu­nity Com­plex. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the dance goes 8-11 p.m. For in­for­ma­tion, call 902213-4978.
