Final Pig and Whistle tonight
Niall MacKay joins Gary Chipman Band in New London
The season finale of the Pig and Whistle Dance takes place this evening at the New London Community Complex.
The Gary Chipman Band, which is the houseband, will be joined by special guest Niall MacKay.
The Gary Chipman Band consists of Chipman on vocals, fiddle and guitar, Blair Coughlin, vocals/bass guitar, George MacPhee on guitar, Orrin Baird playing the saxophone and Bob Gagnon on the drums.
The band focuses its repertoire on covers of 1950s and 1960s rock ’n’ roll legends Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Platters, Chuck Berry and more.
Chipman is a well-known Island musician, having started his career on the Don Messer Live shows and touring with Anna McGoldrick and Stompin’ Tom Connors. He’s also performed with artists such as Ron Hynes, Freddy Fender, The Carleton Showband, Dave Dudley, John Allen Cameron, Lucille Star, Michelle Wright and others.
“Season 4 of the Pig and Whistle Dance has been fantastic – we started these dances four years ago to bring back ’50s and ’60s rock ’n’ roll to small communities across P.E.I.,” said Chipman. “We greatly appreciate the tremendous support we have received from our loyal followers and we look forward to Season 5.”
There will be a 50/50 draw. The event supports cystic fibrosis and the New London Community Complex. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the dance goes 8-11 p.m. For information, call 902213-4978.
