k.d. lang, the creator of “Ingénue”, returns to P.E.I. tonight for her first concert after 25 years

“It definitely was the most successful record, although I had been working for seven or eight years prior to that in the country music field. But, certainly ‘Ingénue’ took me to whole, new level.” k.d. Lang

It’s been 25 years since k.d. lang performed last on Prince Edward Island.

And the award-winning Canadian country singer says she’s “excited” and “looking forward” to her concert at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown today at 7:30 p.m.

“I’ve always loved P.E.I., when I performed there in the early, early days. I love that part of the world and now I get to see it with a more, mature vision,” says lang, during a telephone interview.

Her performance marks a musical milestone. It’s been 25 years since lang jumped onto the stage to release “Ingénue”, her platinum solo album, which resulted in the hit song, “Constant Craving”.

And now with the re-issue of the album, “k.d. lang: “Ingénue: The 25th anniversary edition”, lang is returning to stage in a solo show.

“I’m happy to re-release it. I’m hoping that the audience members have their own, personal journey with the record,” says lang, who feels “a lot of energy” has gone into the quality of the tracks that have been re-mastered for today’s standards.

“So it’s sweet for me to step back and re-visit the record and bring all my experiences with the record and perform it will all sorts of new influences,” says lang.

Initially released in 1992, “Ingénue” gave her worldwide recognition.

“It definitely was the most successful record, although I had been working for seven or eight years prior to that in the country music field. But certainly ‘Ingénue’ took me to whole, new level.”

And now with the re-release she’ll be connecting with new and old friends during a 17-stop tour.

“I haven’t done a real coastto-coast tour of Canada for many, many years so I’m really excited, especially this year, Canada’s 150th birthday with my fellow countrymen.”

Tonight’s concert will start with the album, “Ingénue”, played in its entirety.

“Then we’ll round the show with songs from my catalogue.”
