Students begin activities for another year

Kinkora Regional High School

School photos are being taken on Sept. 12

On Sept. 14, a provincial peer helping training is being held at Credit Union Place in Summerside for various Island high schools. Also, the KRHS open house is at the school at 6 p.m. All parents/guardians are encouraged to attend.

Looking ahead, the school’s annual Terry Fox Run is Sept. 20 with all funds raised going to cancer research. Students and staff will walk on the Confederat­ion Trail.

KRHS has some new staff members this year: Amanda Moffatt (English, writing, career exploratio­ns and opportunit­ies); Leanne Arsenault and Glenda MacDonald (educationa­l assistants); Jessica McCarthy (school counsellor), Lori Allen (youth service worker).

Students Rebecca Green, Katie Pearce, Liam Arsenault and Callie Thomson will be travelling to Waterloo, Ont., for the Canadian Student Leadership Conference, Sept. 26 to Oct. 1. The 33rd annual conference will build on the theme of developing an innovative spirit in student leaders.

Colonel Gray High School

Colonel Gray welcomes several new teachers: Suba Aiyer (math/science); Rebeccah Branton (economics/business); Greg Chandler (EAL); Rowan Fitzgerald (music - one month); Mark Gregory (social studies); Melanie LaBelle (French/biology); Laura Lindsay (CEO and leadership); Ami Moore (science - second semester); Cheryl Tanton (physical education). This year’s new educationa­l assistants are Tara Atherton, Emily Burhoe, Kendra MacDonald and Sara Prosser.

Christie Stewart is this year’s student council president, while Connor Crosby is vicepresid­ent.

Meet-the-teacher night is Sept. 21, 7 p.m., starting in the cafeteria.

School photograph­s will be taken on Sept. 27-28.
