Homestead trail closes today
Beginning on Monday, Sept. 11 and continuing throughout the fall, infrastructure work will be underway on the Homestead trail in the Cavendish area of Prince Edward Island National Park.
Portions of the Homestead trail will be closed for resurfacing of pathways, tree trimming, and other trail infrastructure improvements. Public safety is a priority for Parks Canada. For this reason, the affected sections of the trail will be closed as work progresses.
There will be signage on site, identifying the section of the trail currently under work. Closed sections will be marked on the map at the trailhead and construction signs will be posted on the trail. For your safety, we ask the public to not enter the construction zone.
Visitors are invited to discover the many other trails available in the park, including Cavendish Grove, the Cavendish Dunelands trail and the paved Gulf Shore Way, along the coast, or to walk along the beach from any of the beach access points.
Visitors are reminded that the domestic animal ban is currently in effect for P.E.I. National Park beaches until Oct. 15, but dogs on leash are welcome on trails and in picnic areas.
While these infrastructure upgrades may result in a shortterm inconvenience, they will bring a long-term benefit and improve visitor experience at P.E.I. National Park.
Parks Canada is investing $3 billion over 5 years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada. These investments represent the largest federal infrastructure plan in the history of Parks Canada.
