Ledwell, Blanchard at Joyriders event
Evening with comedy, music supports therapeutic riding program
The Joyriders Therapeutic Riding Association is planning an evening of comedy and music with Patrick Ledwell and Meaghan Blanchard on Saturday at Gingerwood, the home of Danny and Martie Murphy in Stanhope.
The group holds a major fundraising gala every two years at Gingerwood, which is a major source of funds for the therapeutic riding program. The program receives no government funding and is entirely a volunteer organization with no salaried staff.
The intimate kitchen party venue at Gingerwood seats 150 with a few tickets still available at $65.
The evening features a reception with hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, a live auction of a limited number of items by professional auctioneer Brian Craswell and entertainment by two Islanders with growing national recognition.
Joyriders president Janice Cole is excited about the evening.
“The auction items are really amazing and the whole evening looks like a great time,” she says.
One of the auction items getting a lot of attention is a specially commissioned large painting by acclaimed artist Lindee Climo, who donated the painting to Joyriders especially for the occasion. It features Tanner, a horse used in the riding program.
Climo’s work is found in major collections across Canada and beyond and can be seen locally in the Atlantic Veterinary College, the QEH and the Confederation Centre Art Gallery.
There is also a major original painting piece by Karen Gallant, WestJet tickets to any destination the airline services, a ViaRail voucher for $1,000, driving lessons, a painting to be done on-site by Scott O’Neil, a Spa membership, and a large Doreen Foster etching.
The silent auction will have items to fit any budget and has a variety of superb handcrafted work, art, books, a sailboat cruise, a catered wine and cheese party in a waterfront home and much more. A limited number of tickets are available from Jim McQuaid (902 368-3525) or Deena Robb (902 894-5750).
