New throne speech coming this fall
A new session of the legislative assembly will open on Nov.14 with a speech from the throne.
This means the current session, which began in April 2016, will be prorogued and the six bills that have not yet passed will die on the order paper.
These include a bill that proposes to create a lobbyist registry in P.E.I. and another bill that would enshrine whistleblower protection into law.
However, the premier’s office does say those two bills will be re-tabled during the upcoming fall sitting of the legislature.
Other bills that will be tabled include the long-awaited Water Act and amendments to the Maintenance Enforcement Act and the Rental of Residential Properties Act.
The province’s annual capital budget will also be presented this fall, which will outline the MacLauchlan government’s spending plans for roads, bridges and buildings for the year ahead.
“Working together with Islanders, we will continue to grow our economy to create jobs, support our communities, and provide better access to frontline services such as health care and supports for families,” said Premier Wade MacLauchlan. “We will build on the priorities of Islanders as we work to provide opportunities now and in the future.”
Visitors to the public gallery can watch the proceedings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Full proceedings are broadcast live online at www.assembly. pe.ca and on Eastlink television.
