Career development practitioner presenting in Wellington

-

French-speaking Islanders looking for work and employers can find out later this month how Career Development Services’ six P.E.I. locations can help.

A lunch-and-learn Sept. 19 at noon at the Wellington Rural Action Centre (RAC) is being organized to provide an overview of the supports they can expect to receive from CDS.

Career development practitioner Jackie Stewart has been working in the field with CDS since 2011, and will be making this presentation in French

“On a daily basis, we assist clients with job readiness skills, funding information, program information, career exploration, goal setting, government employment applications, college applications, etc. All of us at CDS are client-driven so we typically provide whatever resources the client is looking for to help them find employment that fits their life,” said Stewart.

“This past year, we have been working more with employers to assist in helping them find the right person for the job through advertising, providing preliminary screening, etc.”

Whether a person is looking for work, changing careers, returning to the workforce or exploring career and training opportunities, CDS offers a confidential environment where they are able to learn about career options, discover skills and abilities and search for employment.

CDS offices are located in Bloomfield, Wellington, Summerside, Charlottetown, Montague and Souris.

Stewart is based out of Bloomfield but usually spends Tuesdays at the Wellington RAC.

The hour-long lunch-andlearn is being organized by the Rural Action Centre and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of P.E.I.

Those interested in participating must register by Sept. 15 by contacting Velma Robichaud at 902-854-3439, ext. 228, or velma@rdeeipe.org.

The registration fee, which covers a light lunch, is $5 for members of the Acadian Chamber and $10 for non-members.
