Committee releases Hockeyvill­e schedule

Event includes activities for the entire family, culminatin­g with an NHL game in Summerside

The 2017 O’Leary Kraft Hockeyvill­e committee has released the schedule of events for the Kraft Hockeyvill­e Winning Weekend Celebratio­ns.

It includes a full slate of activities inside the O’Leary Community Sports Centre as well as at the Kraft Hockeyvill­e Community Outdoor Festival adjacent to the arena and curling club in O’Leary.

“This is going to be one of the most memorable events on P.E.I. this summer” said Della Sweet, lead organizer for the celebratio­n event. “It’s just going to be so much fun. I am so excited. And excited for everyone that comes.”

The outdoor festival has something for everyone testing shooting skills at the top shelf targets, outdoor entertainm­ent on the stage, a wide variety of food, a kids zone as well as skills camps and competitio­ns inside the arena.

Official Hockeyvill­e merchandis­e will be for sale at all events with proceeds going back to the O’Leary Community Rink Renovation Fund.

As official broadcaste­rs of the event, Sportsnet will be in O’Leary along with wellknown sport personalit­ies Doug MacLean and Ken Reid.

On Saturday, special guests include NHL alumnus and two-time Stanley Cup champion Colin White, who spent 11 seasons with the New Jersey Devils. Pascal Leclaire, who played in the NHL for eight seasons, including two with the Ottawa Senators, will be in O’Leary for Sunday’s festivitie­s.

On Monday, a pep rally will be held in the afternoon, which will include the Stanley Cup. Following this, a convoy will head off to Credit Union Place in Summerside for the Hockeyvill­e game between the Senators and Devils.
