Since its inauguration 20 years ago, Seventh Day Slumber has made a name as a Christian hard rock/alternative metal band.

It began as an independent band and signed its first deal with BEC Records in 2005. Consisting of Joseph Rojas (vocals), Jeremy Holderfield (guitars and programming), Ken Reed (bass guitar) and Blaise Rojas (drums), Seventh Day Slumber recently released “Found” from VSR Music Group.

Produced and engineered by Holderfield, “Found” is a 10track project that exhibits the hard rock sound many of their fans enjoy.

The album opens with “Sky Is Falling,” a song that typifies the rock style for which this group is known, with guitars and drums accenting that there is hope even when “you think the sky is falling.”

The CD continues in its hard rock vein with “Horizon.”

Seventh Day Slumber employs a pop ballad for its title track. While die-hard fans might be upset, the style fits the message of the song well:

“You were the one who always came running/ When all my world had come undone….All of Your grace for all of my failure/ I was so lost but now I’m found.”

Another softer rock title on “Found” is “Mercy Meets My Pain.” Again, this track is suited to the gentler pop sounds:

“And through all the chaos and madness You are working for my gain/ In my darkest night is where Your mercy meets my pain.”

Through it all, Seventh Day Slumber has kept their focus on presenting a gospel message. Front man Rojas’ father was actually saved at a Seventh Day Slumber event a number of years ago. “In the crowd of people running to the altar, I saw my father coming forward and he wound up giving his life to Christ at one of our concerts. Now my father and I actually have a relationship, and while we don’t get to talk as much as we should simply because I’m on the road so much, it’s a pretty awesome addition to the story.”

Seventh Day Slumber has created a strong album with “Found”. With enough of the band’s trademark metal sounds to satisfy fans, this album also contains several pop songs that will appeal to fans of the group’s previous pop-sounding worship albums. “Found” is a satisfying blend of both styles that doesn’t seem to compromise on either the music or the message.
