Ballet auditions set for P.E.I.

-

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) School Professional Division will hold auditions in search of new talent across Canada, and one stop in Minneapolis.

The Audition Tour, which will held from Oct. 11-Jan. 19, is the first step for students hoping to join one of the RWB School’s three full-time professional programs: Ballet Academic (ages 10+), Aspirant (post-secondary), and Teacher Training (post-secondary).

The audition tour will be in Charlottetown on Oct. 31 at the island Dance Academy on Richmond Street.

Auditions include a Q & A session as well as a master class in some cities. Students who are unable to attend an audition may send in a video application, which will be accepted until May 1, 2018.

Liam Saito, a graduate of the Ballet Academic Program, secured a highly sought-after Apprentice position with the RWB Company immediately after completing the Aspirant Program in June.

“My experience in the RWB School has made me into a stronger person, and taught me how to achieve what I want in my life and career,” said Saito. “The teachers at RWB are all excellent and very knowledgeable. They each bring their own perspective from their respective careers while maintaining the consistency of the RWB technique in their classes.”

After auditioning, students who are identified as having potential for professional training, are invited to attend summer session that acts as the second phase of the audition process. Running throughout the month of July, 2018 in Winnipeg, summer session allows students to experience life at the RWB first hand. After this month of intensive training, students who are deemed to be a fit for one of the RWB School’s professional programs will be accepted into regular session, running from September, 2018 to June, 2019.
