The funeral for Marita Doucette (nee Doiron), beloved wife of Edward Doucette, of Rustico, was held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Rustico. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Arulraj Santiago, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by the family. The first reading, from Ecclesiast­es, was addressed by Lori Murphy. The second reading, from I John, was addressed by Lynn Gallant. The Prayers of the Faithful were led by Marilyn Doucette. The altar servers were James Donnelly, Joseph O. Gallant and Lori Doucette. Marie Doiron, Lori Doucette and Joseph O. Gallant assisted Father Santiago as Eucharisti­c ministers. The music was provided by the church choir with Shane Arsenault as organist, Delma Good as guitarist and Phyllis Arsenault as choir director. The hymns were: Entrance, “On Eagles Wings”; Psalm, “The Lord’s My Shepherd”; Gospel Acclamatio­n, “Alleluia”, with Janet Cox as cantor; offertory, “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman”; communion, “You Are My Saviour”, sung by Phyllis Arsenault; commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessiona­l, “J’irai la voir un jour”. Honorary pallbearer­s were everyone present. Pallbearer­s were Mark MacDougall, Raymond Arsenault, Stephen Gallant, Ray Bradshaw, Rob Blanchard and Carl Doucette. Flower bearers were Kyle Gallant, Kristen Gallant, Nicholas Gallant and Jenna Gallant. Interment took place in St. Augustine’s Cemetery, where Father Raj conducted the committal service. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
