Caps announce two roster moves

Busy few days, on and off the ice, for Summerside’s MHL entry

After a busy weekend on the ice, it’s been a couple of busy days for the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals.

Capitals general manager Pat McIver confirmed on Monday that forward Brodie MacArthur of Summerside will be returning to the Caps after starting the season with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

“We are pretty excited,” said McIver. “Brodie, as a 17-yearold, was a point-per-game player last year.

“We have struggled to score this year, there’s no doubt about that. Obviously, we feel Brodie will be able to help as his vision alone will give other guys opportunities.”

MacArthur, who appeared in one regular-season game with the Wildcats, recorded 50 points – 15 goals and 35 assists – in 50 regular-season contests with the Caps last year.

McIver added MacArthur will rejoin the Caps for Tuesday’s practice, and is expected to be in the lineup for Thursday’s home game against the Campbellton Tigers. Game time at Eastlink Arena is 7 p.m.

After back-to-back 3-2 wins over the St. Stephen Aces and Woodstock Slammers on Friday and Saturday, the Caps will be looking to make it three straight wins and even their early-season record at 3-3-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). Campbellton is 2-2-1.

Trade

The Caps have also dealt 18-year-old defenceman Matt O’Leary to the Valley Wildcats in exchange for the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) rights to 17-year-old goaltender Lucas Fitzpatrick, along with conditional fourth- and sixthround picks in the 2017 draft.

Fitzpatrick has a 3.02 goalsagainst average and .907 save percentage in two games with the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season.

“Matt wasn’t happy here, and him and I had a discussion on Saturday morning and he felt it was best if he moved on,” said McIver, who added O’Leary expressed a desire to join the Wildcats.

O’Leary was pointless in four regular-season games with the Caps.

McIver added the Caps are looking to make some more moves.

“We feel we have some areas we need to improve on, and we are going to keep working at that,” he added.
