Helping hand for Prince County family

-

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Candi Marchbank, the wife of the man who died in Tuesday’s car crash in Lower Sackville, N.S.

Paul Brian Marchbank, 48, of Bedeque was one of the passengers in a 2009 Honda Civic that slammed into a parked Mercedes-Benz cube van.

Paul, along with a 42-year-old man from Lower Sackville, died as a result of the accident.

The 26-year-old driver of Lower Sackville, who was not injured, is facing charges as a result of the investigation.

Friends of Candi have set up a GoFundMe page looking for donations to help Candi’s family during this difficult time.

Candi is currently caring for her three children ages 14, 16 and 19, as well as her late son Brodie MacDonald’s children, ages 1 and 3. The GoFundMe page is looking for clothes, accessories and other donations, in addition to monetary donations.

As of Wednesday evening, just over $1,000 out of $5,000 had been fundraised, with all the money going to help Candi’s family.

“I’m calling for all of the goodhearted people in the area,” read the GoFundMe page post by Jess Praught of Summerside.

“A family in our community needs our help.”

A benefit and silent auction will also be held at a later date and will be announced by Oct. 7.

Candi is an active volunteer in her community, including hosting the Breakfast Buddies program at Summerside Intermediate School.

A funeral service for Paul will be held Saturday at Moase Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Interment will take place in the Peoples Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Paul Marchbank Children’s Education Fund.
