Montague earns rating, special mention in award program
The Town of Montague received a 5 Leaves - Bronze rating and a special mention for Montague’s 100th Anniversary & 100 days of Community Celebration! during the 2017 National/International Symposium and Awards Ceremonies.
The Town of Montague participated in the Canada 150 category: a one-time special non-competitive category to provide communities with the opportunity to showcase achievements in greening its community and celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary.
Over the summer, trained volunteer judges travelled to participating communities to evaluate the overall contributions of municipal council and departments; industry; businesses and the private sector – including volunteer efforts – in regards to the following criteria: cultural heritage including Canada’s 150 anniversary; landscape, including urban forestry, floral displays and environmental action.
“2017 is Montague’s 100th anniversary, and in conjunction with Canada’s 150th, a special commemorative coin was minted, and is being handed out at special events being held every day for 100 days,” volunteer judges Colleen Stockford and Susan Ellis wrote following their evaluation.
“In addition to the coin, another 14 art installations are being placed throughout the town, to complement the 14 that were installed in 2014. The Art Trail is a collaborative effort, featuring murals, wood carvings, metal sculptures, and ceramic mosaics that delight, engage, and inform the viewers. It is carving out a special niche for Montague as a cultural cornerstone of Prince Edward Island, and rightfully so.”
