Laugh in the lime light

A new Canadian musical comedy workshop and reading

-

The team behind a new Canadian Musical Floor 27 will do its first public reading at The Guild at 2 p.m. on Oct. 7, and its members want public feedback.

Partnered with The Guild and Young at Heart Theatre, Catherine O’Brien has brought together a group of talented performers to bring Floor 27 to life.

When O’Brien, director, discovered the script written by John Arnold (P.E.I.) and Mike Paterson (N.S.) she knew it was a piece of work needed to be seen by a wider audience.

Floor 27 is a timely, musically rich celebration of humanity’s enduring inability to stick to the plan and the folly of expecting that we will.

O’Brien began sharing her excitement with others and to her delight, they too were enchanted by the whacky yet relatable story of Lithcoe Balcombe and his struggles through the daily life of the rat race.

“Once I shared the synopsis, it was easy to get folks to take part,” said O’Brien.

Since getting the cast and crew, O’Brien has committed to paying a fair wage to each person on the team, which is why she has launched her crowd funding campaign to help cover the costs (https://www.gofundme.com/ Floor27themusical).

The cast includes members of “Anne & Gilbert”, many of whom are alumni of the Sheridan College theatre program.

“Sheridan College has expressed some interest in it as well, and is looking forward to hearing how our workshop goes’ O’Brien said. Sheridan has excelled in developing new works – “Come From Away”- is a prime example.

“It’s not very often that a team is able to bring the audience along on the journey of workshopping a new piece like this,” said O’Brien.

“And we are really hoping that Charlottetown’s theatre lovers come out to help us shape Floor 27 into the next great Canadian musical.”

Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and admission is by donation.
