Elora Festival Singers perform
‘With Glowing Hearts’, a multimedia show on Oct. 13
Rhe renowned Elora Festival Singers, under the direction of Noel Edison, will be visiting P.E.I. on Friday, Oct. 13, to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary with a spectacular multi-media performance created by historian Hugh Brewster.
“With Glowing Hearts” recounts the story of this country since Confederation through music, words and visuals. Music selections range from an Ode to Canada by the Fathers of Confederation to an original work by Odawa First Nations composer Barbara Croall. Between is a tapestry of varied Canadian musical expression, including Oscar Peterson’s Hymn to Freedom, music by the Four Lads, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.
Founded in 1980 by Michael Purvis-Smith and Edison and modeled after the Tanglewood Festival in Massachusetts, this chamber choral group was intended to form the core of a music festival in the beautiful village of Elora, Ont. The success of the group grew quickly, and in 1990 the Elora Festival was officially established. For over 37 years now, the festival singers have attracted many world class artists and have performed internationally.
Artistic director Edison directs the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Elora Festival Singers, as well as the Elora Festival Orchestra. Praised for his charisma and versatility as a conductor, Edison focuses on interpretation of both the choral and orchestral repertoire. He is pleased to be coming to the Island and bringing this unique presentation to P.E.I. audiences.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church. Admission is $20, and $15 for students. Tickets may be reserved in advance by calling Ann Francis at 902-393-8820 or 902-3672850, or purchased through Brown Paper tickets: http:// elorafestivalsingers.bpt.me
