Western Caps win fourth straight

-

The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals held on Saturday night.

Hunter McIntyre’s goal 40 seconds into the third period gave the Capitals a seemingly comfortable 7-2 advantage. However, McIntyre’s first goal of the season would end up standing as the game-winner as the Caps would have to survive a late comeback attempt by the Amherst Ramblers en route to an 8-6 win.

It was the Capitals’ fourth straight victory after starting the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) regular season with three straight losses. It was also the first regulationtime loss for the Ramblers, who dropped to 4-1-1-1 (wonlost-overtime losses-shootout losses).

Before 907 fans at the Amherst Stadium, Summerside native and sophomore forward Brodie MacArthur scored two goals and added two assists while third-year defenceman Jesse Annear also had a fourpoint night – one goal and three assists. Annear’s goal into an empty net with 23 seconds remaining sealed the win.

TJ Shea netted a brace and contributed a helper while rookie Jordan Spence registered three helpers for the Caps, who received single goals from Jonathan Larter and Sebastien Cormier.

Rett Rook turned in a 44-save performance in earning his first victory as a Western Capital. Overall, the Ramblers held a 50-25 shots-on-goal advantage, including period advantages of 18-8, 19-7 and 13-10 despite the Caps holding period leads of 3-0 and 6-2.

Tayden Woods (1-1), Layton Parsons, Jordan King, Felix LeBlanc, Bradley Dawe and Brady Griffin-Hefford countered for the Ramblers, who netted four unanswered third-period goals to make it a 7-6 game with 2:35 remaining.
