Arnold Croken named port CEO

- EDUCATION

There has been a shake-up in the leadership of the Summerside Port Corporation.

Arnold Croken, the long-time president of the corporation and chairman of its board of directors, has been appointed to the position of chief executive officer.

Croken will now be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. He replaces David Bellefontaine, who had been acting manager of the corporation, but has moved on.

Two new directors, Jim Bradley and Ivan Noonan, have also been appointed to the board. Bradley is the current CEO and general manager of Amalgamated Dairies Ltd. while Noonan has an extensive management history in the potato industry.

The board has also elected its new executive, including Terry Murphy as the president and chairman of the board, Bradley as the vice-president and Steve MacFarlane as secretary-treasurer.

The other directors are Earle Smith, John MacDonald, Robert Ashley and Noonan.

The board made all of these appointments during its annual general meeting on July 27. They became effective in September.

The corporation is a not-forprofit organization charged with managing and developing the port on behalf of the community. It was created following the federal government’s port divestiture program in 2010.

As well as the original assets it inherited from the government, the corporation has expanded its land holdings in recent years to include the Spinnaker’s Landing tourism development and the Harbour Quay commercial building. The corporation was also the original proponent of what became the Summerside Urban Core Plan, a long-term downtown revitalization plan, which was adopted, in principle, by the city in March.
