Charlottet­own Rural High School

Kent Avery and four CRHS students (Cameron Collins, Kaytlyn Bryenton, Tolu Faromika and Reace Willis) have been selected to attend this year’s National Seminar for Debate in Port Hope, Ont. this month. Participan­ts will meet other students from across the country, attend sessions on perfecting debate skills and growing debate societies in each of their own provinces, and potentiall­y compete in the National Debating Championsh­ips.

Grade 11 students are encouraged to consider applicatio­n to Pearson College, one of 17 United World Colleges. Students who are ambitious and curious about the world and have a can-do attitude should check out www.ca.uwc.org to learn more. Deadline to apply is Nov. 15 for September 2018 entry.

Heckbert Studio will be at Rural to take grad photos from Oct. 16-17.

Keith Thompkins (Biogenius Program) and Barry Bisson (Shad Valley) are coming to CRHS this week to speak to students about these enrichment programs.

There will be no classes for students on Thursday and Friday so staff can attend the annual PEITF Convention.

Montague Regional

High School Student council will host a Haunted Hallway at the high school on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Admission is $2 or a non-perishable food donation.

The next MRHS Parent Council Meeting is Monday, Oct. 16, at 5:30 p.m. in the Library Conference room. The school is looking for representa­tives from Cardigan and Vernon River; however, everyone is welcome.

The MRHS Disney Choir will hosts the Field of Screams Haunted Corn Maze again this year at Chuckwagon Farms in Eldon on Oct. 20- 21 and 27-28 from dusk until 10 p.m., weather pending. Tickets are $15 per person. Half of the proceeds go to the MRHS Disney Choir to fund raise for their upcoming trip to perform in Disney World in March 2018.

The MRHS Choir will perform at Singfest (part of World Singing Day) at the Confederat­ion Court Mall on Saturday on Oct. 21, 2:30 p.m., as part of World Singing Day.

Kinkora Regional High School

School photo retakes will be done Wednesday.

There is no school on Oct. 19-20 because of the annual P.E.I.T.F. convention.

There are 27 potential grads for 2018. Grads are reminded to email their baby photos and grad write-ups for the 2018 KRHS yearbook to ldcousins@ cloud.edu.pe.ca.

Grad photos will be taken Friday at Heckbert’s Photograph­y. A major fundraiser is the pancake breakfast on Oct. 29. More details will follow.

Colonel Gray High School

There will be no classes for students on Oct. 19-20, due to P.E.I.T.F. annual convention.

On Oct. 20, UPEI is hosting an open house on Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. where applicatio­n fees are waived ($50 value) and students can get on-site admission. There will be campus tours, as well as faculty informatio­n sessions in arts, business, nursing and science. Respond to bit.ly/upeiopenho­use2017.

Rotary Youth Exchange will hold an informatio­n session at the Charlottet­own Rural High School lecture theatre on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. for parents and students who wish to participat­e in this great adventure.

A welcome is extended to student teachers doing their practicum at CGHS for the next eight weeks: Brian Middleton will be working with Kelly O’Connell; Melissa Sanson with Mrs. Corinne Chappell and Connor Turner with Thane Arsenault and Andrew MacDougall.

The Coats for Kids campaign is underway at the school, until end of October. Gently used winter jackets, hats, mittens and boots, of any size, can be dropped off to the bin outside student services. These will be cleaned and donated to Island families.

School photos will be taken Oct. 30 for any students missed earlier or wishing a retake.

Westisle Composite High School

There’s a new clothing site connected to the school this year. It allows students and their families to purchase Westile clothing very easily.

The Credit Union Fitness Centre is now up and running. Students are taking advantage of the facility during lunch, and all are encouraged to try the free CrossFit program running every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3-3:45 p.m.

Bluefield High School

At our recent PD Day, teachers had an excellent presentati­on on student mental Health, participat­ed in working on school coals and worked on new ideas for Writing as Thinking with a PSB coach.

Watch for some changes to the school website as workers increase its effectiven­ess and better engage the school community.

Bluefield’s academy diploma program in arts and culture is holding an informatio­n meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 11:45 a.m. in the Reading Room in the library. All Grade 10 and 11 students that may be interested are asked to attend. A follow-up parent meeting will be held Oct. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the art room at the school.

The Step Up Club is holding a community yard sale in support of families in need in the Bluefield Family of Schools. It will take place in the back parking lot of Clow’s store, Hampshire on Oct. 21 from 8 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Donations for the sale can be dropped off to Anna at Clow’s anytime before 7 p.m. on Oct. 20.
