Foundations fundraising for ultrasound machine for Western Hospital
The O’Leary Community Health Foundation is not so much tied to one facility as it is to health services says the foundation’s chairwoman, Eva Rodgerson.
She was in Alberton recently to deliver her foundation’s $2,000 contribution to the Western Hospital Foundation’s ultrasound fund.
“It services the people of West Prince and it’s the only one in the area,” she said.
Dave McKenna, chairman of the Western Hospital Foundation, said his foundation made a motion in January to purchase the equipment. It will cost approximately $35,000. The machine will be used to detect pregnancies as well as certain conditions and diseases. McKenna said the Western Hospital Foundation and the Western Hospital Healthcare Auxiliary each pledged $7,500 a year for two years towards the purchase price, leaving about $5,000 to be raised through other means, including the O’Leary Community Health Foundation’s contribution.
“If we have discretionary monies, then we like to help with more services for the area,” said Rodgerson, pointing out the ultrasound equipment will benefits residents from all over West Prince.
She noted the foundation has also donated to the Prince County Hospital Foundation and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, aware that residents from the O’Leary Community Health Foundation’s catchment area will benefit from the equipment its contributions permit.
The ultrasound equipment has been ordered but McKenna said a delivery date hasn’t been finalized.
Meanwhile both foundations expect to be presented with equipment wish lists to consider for funding during their October monthly meetings.
