Talking food at breakfast mixer
Deputy agriculture minister guest speaker at West Prince Chamber event
Food industry opportunities for Western P.E.I. will be the focus of a breakfast business mixer the West Prince Chamber of Commerce, CBDC West Prince Ventures and the Rural Action Centre, are hosting at Mill River Experience on Thursday, Oct. 19.
Guest speaker for the 8 a.m to 10 a.m. mixer, being held in conjunction with Small Business Week, will be John Jamieson, deputy minister of the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Jamieson will speak about growth in Amazon, 3D food printers and how the expansion of companies like Blue Apron are changing how consumers think about food.
“We have everything from lobsters to offshore fisheries and aquaculture to potato production and other farming enterprises,” noted the chamber’s executive director Tammy Rix, in projecting confidence in the significant role food will play in growing western P.E.I. It all starts with an idea, she insists.
The mixer will also show how the rural action centre can help move the idea along with business guidance, product development, marketing and financial assistance.
Rix, who is also a member of the West Prince Regional Economic Advisory Council, suggested growth potential can
be achieved by people working together with positive attitudes and trust.
“We can do so much more in larger numbers,” she said.
Along the way, she said she hopes to grow the numbers in the chamber, too.
During the Oct. 19 breakfast mixer, Maxine Rennie executive director of CBDC West Prince Ventures, will present its Busi- ness Award of Distinction and its 2017 Young Millionaires Excellence Award.
