Fall into lots of fun at the library

This season offers plenty to enjoy for all age groups

A few special programs are coming up in the Children’s library on PD days.

Today at 2 p.m., kids can enjoy a Makerspace event — an hour of building and creating with library materials. Space is limited, so call to register.

In celebratio­n of Mi’Kmaq History Month the Mi’Kmaq Legends Group will be performing on Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.

On Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. test sleuthing skills with C.S.I in the Library, and on Nov. 13, Drop-In Doodles offers drawing challenges throughout the day.

There are also afterschoo­l and evening programs — both writing or crafting. The Junior Writer’s Group for ages 7-12 will be starting up on Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. and Craft Club will be back on Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m.

Regular programs in the children’s library are always available and offer an exciting age range of options. Starting with the youngest library patrons, on Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. enjoy Wiggle, Giggle, Read! With songs, tickles and rhymes for babies and caregivers. Toddler Time is held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays, and Family Storytime for ages 3-5 (and their grownups) is Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 11 a.m.

Other weekly programs include Comic Club at 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Lego Club on Sundays at 2 p.m.

On Nov. 8, puppet drama returns to the library at 10:30 a.m.

For teens, the popular Dropin Drawing program continues on Saturdays at 1:30 p.m.

Today at 7 p.m. travel through time exploring how the Island was formed and how it became the beautiful place it is today. The Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project is giving a slideshow and talk on the natural history of P.E.I. with a focus on the Acadian forest that will cover the native ecosystems of P.E.I. as well as their inhabitant­s.

The latest Financial Literacy session topic this month is Retirement and Government Plans. It will be presented on Oct. 21 at 2 p.m.

For those looking for health informatio­n, the Arthritis Society of P.E.I. will be offering an informatio­n session, Sleep and Fatigue, on Oct. 25 and a session on exercise on Nov.15. Both sessions start at 1 p.m. Contact the Arthritis Society to register: info@pe.arthritis.ca or 902-6282288.

Island native, Mo Duffy Cobb, will be at the library on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., detailing how world travel helped her and her family deal with personal grief, as chronicled in her book “Unpacked: from P.E.I. to Palawan”.

The mid-morning book club meets Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. and will be discussing the 2017 Canada Reads selection, “The Break”, by Katherena Vermette. Drop in to the library to register and pick up a copy.

The library will be closed on Nov. 11 in honour of Remembranc­e Day. A few recommende­d reads for Remembranc­e Day include “Dunkirk: the history behind the major motion picture” by Joshua Levine and “Vimy: the battle and the legend” by Tim Cook.
