Centre will be rockin’
Benefit dance for Carl Shoemaker and family
The dance floor at the Murphy Community Centre in Charlottetown will be full tonight as folks move to the sounds of Phase II and Friends.
Once again, this band is happy to contribute its music and energy to help out Carl Shoemaker, a well-respected member of the community of Johnston’s River who is presently undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer.
Needless to say, this type of illness puts a tremendous emotional and financial strain on Shoemaker and his family. As a result, friends and relatives have joined together to offer their support by organizing the benefit dance from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Besides great dance music, there will be a silent auction and a 50/50 draw.
“A benefit is not just about raising money. When we first hear of someone going through a difficult time, most of us wish there was something we could do to help. A benefit provides us with an opportunity to actually do just that. Whether it be making a contribution to the auction, purchasing an item, or just paying admission, folks feel good about helping out. It also allows friends and family to come together and share their thoughts and concerns.”
Doors will open at 7 p.m., for viewing items in the silent auction, which will end at 10 p.m., to give everyone ample time to pick up their purchases. The music will feature Phase II accompanied by their two special guests: Keila Glydon and Jeanie Campbell.
We are always delighted to have Keila and Jeanie join us for a show; they contribute so much through their own lead vocals as well as the awesome harmony they add in every song,” says lead singer, Gerry Hickey, “two very sweet ladies with whom it’s a pleasure to share the stage.”
This is an opportunity for friends and relatives of Shoemaker and his family, as well as fans of Phase II, to enjoy a great night of dancing, while contributing to a very deserving family undergoing an extremely difficult time.
Tickets are available at the door.
