CWL meets in Charlotett­own

More than 930 delegates and guests attended the Catholic Women’s League of Canada 97th Annual Convention held in Charlottet­own in August at the Delta Hotel by Marriott.

The convention’s theme was “Inspired by the Spirit Women Respond to God’s Call”. CWL members came from every Canadian province as well as the North.

More than 225 members from the Island attended, many of whom had worked diligently on committees for several years and during the convention to ensure its great success.

Opening and closing masses were held at St. Dunstan’s Basilica where eight archbishop­s and bishops as well as many clergy participat­ed in the masses. Daily mass, as well as other spiritual exercises, were held. Guest speakers included Ken Yasinski (Becoming a Living Thank You and A Catholic Identity Crisis), Reginald Bibby, June Webber and Donna Dunn, who led a session on Building on Foundation, the League the Future.

Provincial presidents, national president Margaret Ann Jacobs and national chairperso­ns presented their annual reports. Four resolution­s were passed during the business sessions.

During the Eucharisti­c celebratio­n, a collection of $4,232 was taken with the money going to the Lennon Recovery House Associatio­n. .

Participan­ts also enjoyed social events – lobster suppers, tours of Charlottet­own and the other parts of the Island, an opening reception, a kitchen party, a Canada Our Dear Home dinner and gala banquet.
