Spooky Halloween fundraiser­s

Students come up with ways to have fun and raise money

Montague Regional High School

Student council is hosting a Haunted Hallway at the school Oct. 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Admission is $2 or a non-perishable food donation. Come out for a spooky good time.

School picture retakes are today, 12:30-2:30 p.m., in the library conference room.

Eight students from MRHS represente­d the school in the corporate relay of the P.E.I. Marathon, placing 12th out of 47 teams. Members of the team were Darian Rice, Caitlin McKenna, Hunter Wight, Zac Arsenault, Katelyn Visser, Chloe Murphy, Allison Vandaele and Micah MacDonald. The Vikings were also well represente­d in the relay by a staff team that finished 30th overall.

Student interim reports will be sent home with students on Oct 27.

Souris Regional School

Halloween mode is on at SRS. The second annual haunted woods will be taking place on Oct. 27-29 at 121 St Charles Rd., 6-9 p.m.

Students will also be hitting the streets on Halloween night to go “trick or eating” for the local food bank.

Morell Regional High School

Students had a successful magazine fundraisin­g campaign during October. All money earned goes towards assisting the student council to organize and present events for the student body.

The global issues class is having a pancake breakfast on Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the cafeteria. Admission is by donation, and all funds raised will be going towards raising awareness for the P.E.I. Canadian Mental Health Associatio­n.

The music program is hosting the annual Haunted House event on Oct. 25-26, open to the public 5:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $3 for students and $5 for adults. The theme this year is “The House of Fears.”

Parents of Grade Nine Students are reminded of Take our Kids to Work Day, Nov. 1. Students must have their permission forms signed and returned by Oct. 25.

Grade 9 students will also be receiving immunizati­on updates to be administer­ed by Public Health officials on Oct. 25.

Charlottet­own Rural High School

Reace Willis, Cameron Collins, Tolu Faromika and Kaytlyn Bryenton attended the recent 2017 National Seminar on Debate in Cobourg, Ont. Bryenton was also the recipient of the President’s Cup as top debater for P.E.I.

Keith Thompkins (Biogenius Program) and Barry Bisson (Shad Valley) visited CRHS last week to speak to students.

Grade 11 student Autumn Kenny attended Encounters with Canada in Ottawa.

Naomi Milner has been selected for the provincial legislatur­e’s Page Program.

Mental Health Monday is today with facts and stats to be shared throughout the day.

UNB is hosting Future Student Events on Oct. 24, 7 p.m., at the Delta Prince Edward and Oct. 25, 7 p.m., at Credit Union Place. RSVP at unb.ca/recruitmen­t.

Rotary will hold an informatio­n session at CRHS in the lecture theatre today at 7 p.m. Students interested in the Rotary exchange program for the 2018-2019 school year and their parents should attend.

School picture re-takes are Oct 27. Students are reminded to take their proofs with them if they want re-takes or to just go down if they missed the first round of photos.

Kinkora Regional High School

This year the school is focused on promoting student and school community wellness. The first event is Oct. 25, 7-8:30 p.m., in the school gym. Students, their friends and family or community members are all encouraged to enjoy UFIT’s “Power to Believe” seminar. Gordon McNeilly will lead a fun, exciting journey that will give everyone the strength to grow individual­ly and as a school community. McNeilly will share his zest for life and focus on changing the way people think so they can strive to achieve more out of their life. Snacks will be provided.

The KRHS grad class of 2018 will do some pumpkin carving and brick painting on Oct. 26 and then go to the Haunted Mansion in Kensington.

The pancake breakfast fundraiser for the grad class is Oct. 29.

Looking ahead, Nov. 1 is Take Our Kids to Work Day for all Grade 9 students, and Nov. 3 is a joint staff day with no classes.

Colonel Gray High School

Rotary Youth Exchange will hold an informatio­n session at Charlottet­own Rural High School Lecture Theatre today at 7 p.m. for parents and students.

Coats for Kids Campaign is continuing at Colonel Gray until the end of the week. Gently used winter jackets, hats, mittens and boots, of any size, can be dropped off to the bin outside student services.

These will be cleaned and donated to Island families.

School photos will be taken on Nov. 2 for any students missed earlier or wishing a retake. Parents may order from proof package online with the access code. Also, note, graduation photos start on Nov. 17. These are by appointmen­t only. See Mrs. Profit in the library.

Recent changes to the Community Service Bursary now permit students in Grades 10-12 to accumulate volunteer hours, calculated at a rate of $5 per hour. Students need to register at www.studentloa­n@gov.pe.ca or call 902-368-4640 to accumulate a minimum of 30 hours, up to a maximum of 150 hours. These CSB hours will then be credited to the student’s postsecond­ary account when starting university or college.

Westisle Composite High School

Westisle’s cafeteria is offering more gluten-free options. Students will have the opportunit­y to purchase sub buns, pasta and wraps that are gluten-free. To avoid cross-contaminat­ion, anyone wanting these options is asked to pre-order in the morning.

The Parent Council meets Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. All parents and guardians are welcome.

Any students absent on picture day or unhappy with their pictures can have retakes done by Lifetouch on Oct. 27.

Holland College will be holding an open house on Nov. 4. Students are encouraged to attend as admission fees will be waived at this time. Contact guidance with any questions. Students must register.
