Former CBC anchor giving talk at UPEI
Former CBC Compass anchor Bruce Rainnie will be talking about his career in broadcasting during a public presentation at UPEI on Nov. 1.
It will take place in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, room 242, in the Don and Marion McDougall Hall between 1:30 and 2:45 p.m.
Rainnie will give a TED Talkstyle presentation as part of UPEI Career Services celebration of Atlantic Canada Career Week, which takes place Oct. 30 to Nov. 3. He will focus on his career in communications and experience and opportunities that helped shape it.
Rainnie is the inaugural journalist-in-residence for UPEI’s new applied communication, leadership and culture (ACLC) program.
He gives lectures and workshops associated with ACLC courses, working with students one-on-one and small group mentoring in public speaking.
In addition to his career as the Compass anchor, Rainnie has worked as an announcer for numerous sporting events, including seven Olympic Games.
He is currently president and CEO of the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame.
Undergraduate and graduate students can get a head start on career planning by attending workshops, information sessions and guest presentations. Topics covered will include writing resumes and cover letters, sales as a potential career path, starting their own businesses, involvement in student government, working for the Government of Canada, applying for graduate school and preparing scholarship and bursary applications. They can also have professional head shots taken for a small fee.
