Wo He Lo group raises $30,000

-

The Wo He Lo group recently held its three-day fall clothing sale at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, raising more than $30,000.

Wo He Lo, (Work, Help, Love) in its 85th year, has a singular mission; to raise funds to provide medical equipment for our tiniest patients - infants in the nursery and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). We owe so many for our success.

To QEH Foundation staff and chairman Bob Sear for your advice and constant support in our planning and execution; the 3rd floor staff who cheerfully carry on, despite being displaced and disrupted; the hospital porters and security for making yourselves available to us.

We want to express our appreciation to local media for your generous publicity; The Guardian for photos and editorial; CBC Radio and Compass for informative interviews, and Fast Signs for renewing our posters without charge.

To the “worker bees: “our donors who supply us with high quality clothing and accessories; our wonderful volunteers who faithfully enlist to work, sale after sale; Ted Grant, who converts surplus clothing into dollars, providing 4,000 meals for the Mikinduri Children of Hope.

To my fellow Wo He Lo members; your energy, passion and dedication to the cause never ceases to amaze.

Finally, special appreciation to the hundreds of shoppers who come to find bargains galore, so that our own QEH may purchase much-needed nursery/NICU equipment for Island babies.

Mary Laflamme, Wo He Lo President
