Students busy with extracurri­cular activities

Kinkora Regional High School

This year KRHS is focused on promoting student and school community wellness. The first event is Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. in the school gym. Students, their friends and family and community members are encouraged to come and enjoy UFIT’s “Power to Believe” seminar. Snacks will be provided.

Parent/teacher interviews are on the evening of Nov. 16 and the morning of Nov. 17. Parents and guardians are encouraged to sign-up for parent/teacher interviews.

Grade 11 student Alyssa Gallant who has been selected to represent KRHS as a page for the 2017/2018 session of the P.E.I. Legislativ­e Assembly.

The Foods 421 class is looking for community members to teach students the secrets of Christmas baking. If interested, phone Mrs. Reeves at 902-8872424 to volunteer this month.

The school will host Wednesday’s ADP advisory committee meeting from 2-4 p.m. Victoria van der Velden and Mya Wood will attend that meeting as copresiden­ts. On Nov. 16 all ADP students have been invited to the Youth Entreprene­urship Forum at the Harbourfro­nt Theatre.

Parent Council will meet immediatel­y following UFIT’s ‘Power to Believe’ seminar on Nov. 9. There will be no classes on Nov. 13.

Souris Regional School

The second annual Haunted Woods was held last weekend at Souris Regional School.

It was a smashing success. Approximat­ely 600 people went through the woods, raising $2000, which will be given to a family in need.

On Halloween night, students went out to collect non-perishable items for the food bank in lieu of candy.

This week, classes are bringing in items for Operation Christmas Child, which will be donated to underprivi­leged children in other countries for Christmas.

Charlottet­own Rural High School

There will be no classes for students on Monday, Nov. 13 in recognitio­n of Remembranc­e

Day.

On Tuesday, Acadia University will have a parent/student night at the Delta Prince Edward Island beginning at 7 p.m. The school will be offering on the spot admission with a current transcript.

The University of Kings College will be at Student Services for an informatio­n session on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 11:30 a.m.

Students interested in learning more about the Forum for Young Canadians can go to Student Services for informatio­n. The deadline to apply is Nov. 24.

The math lab is available every Monday at lunch hour in room 304. This is an opportunit­y for students to review concepts, complete homework, or receive additional instructio­n for any math course offered at the Rural.

Students interested in taking part in the 24 Hour Fast for the Food bank are reminded to pick up their pledge sheet and permission forms from Room No. 205. Students will raise pledges for fasting from food on Nov. 10 and stay overnight at the school to take part in games and activities. Signed permission forms must be returned by Nov. 8.

Bluefield High School

Congratula­tions to student Beth Kirby for winning the Canadian Legion Remembranc­e Day Literary Contest. She will be traveling to Ottawa to read her poem, “What a Poppy Brings to Mind”, at the National Remembranc­e Day Service on Nov. 11. Remembranc­e day assembly is Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Everyone is invited to Indigo Books in Charlottet­own on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 5:30-9 p.m., when a portion of all sales will be donated to our library for the purchase of new books.

Bluefield Step Up Club is holding its annual Christmas raffle until Dec. 8. This year’s prize is an iPhone 7 valued at $900. Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10. Tickets may be purchased from any club members or from Lenette MacDougall, in the main office.

All funds raised by the Step Up Club go directly to families in need the Bluefield community.

Appreciati­on is expressed to everyone who came out to support the Christmas craft fair at the weekend.

All proceeds go towards our music program. The winner of the 50/50 is posted on the school website. The raffle for the gift card tree will be drawn at the Christmas concert, Dec. 7.

Semester 1 mid term report cards will go home Nov. 16. Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Nov. 16 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and on Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Representa­tives from Mount Saint Vincent University, Acadia University and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be at Bluefield High School for presentati­ons this week.

Montague High School

MRHS class of 2018 grad clothing can be ordered until Nov. 17, during lunch break in room 141. Payment is required before ordering.

Montague Regional High School will host its annual Remembranc­e Day service for the public on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Everyone is welcome.

Admission is free but a donation to the poppy fund would be appreciate­d.

There will be no classes on Nov. 13 due to Remembranc­e Day.

Colonel Gray High School

Today an Acadia University representa­tive will be at Student Services at lunchtime.

A St. Mary’s University representa­tive will be at Student Services on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at lunch. King’s College will visit after school at 3:10 p.m.

Mid-term report cards will be sent home on Nov. 16.

Parent teacher Interviews are Nov. 16, from 6:30 – 9 p.m. and Nov. 17, from 9 a.m.– 1 p.m.

Graduation photos start on Nov. 17. These are by appointmen­t only. See Mrs. Profit in the library.

Colonel Gray Craft Fair is Nov. 17 from 5-9 p.m. and Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Student interested in finding out more about Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. can sign up for the free bus tour on Nov. 17, leaving Charlottet­own at 9:30 a.m. and returning at 6 p.m. It includes campus tour, presentati­on, dining hall buffet meal and on-the-spot admissions for students who bring their transcript­s.
