A Night to Remember
Phase II and Friends will perform shows in honour of veterans in Wellington, Souris and Hunter River
Nov. 9-12 will see Phase II and Friends covering a large part of the Island, performing three shows in honour of veterans.
The first stop is the Wellington Legion on Thursday, Nov. 9, beginning at 8 p.m. From there, the band heads east on Nov. 10 for another show at the Eastern Kings Community Centre, again with an 8 p.m. start. Finally on Sunday, Nov. 12, the group performs in a more central location, hosted by Central Queens United Church in Hunter River, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
“We are really looking forward to all three shows”, says Gerry Hickey, spokesman for the band.
“Everyone has worked hard to learn some truly great tunes, many of which feature the wonderful voices of Keila Glydon and Jeanie Campbell.
“Blaine Murphy, Pat King, John McGarry and Ed Young, four outstanding musicians, have put in a good many hours learning the music. They contribute so much to every show.”
The set list contains songs from the First World War right up to protest tunes from the 60’s and 70’s and even a Phase II original written specifically for Remembrance Day.
As an added bonus, the folks who attend the Wellington concert will be treated to the voice of Marcella Richard, a local artist who has been performing her whole life.
“Not only is Marcella a great singer, but she fits like a glove in the group. Everyone liked her immediately and she, Keila and Jeanie sing like sisters,” says Hickey.
After intermission, the group will be encouraging the audience to sing along as they go through some lively old tunes like “Bill Bailey”, “Long Way to Tipperary”, “Bye Bye Blackbird” and “Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree”.
Advance tickets for the Wellington Legion are available now at the Legion.
Tickets for Eastern Kings are available at the Community Centre. For Central Queens, tickets will be available at the door.
“This show is our way of saying thank you to all those who have sacrificed so much for this wonderful country of ours. The show will portray not only gratitude but absolute respect for the people who keep Canadians free and safe. Please come out and show your appreciation for our veterans, past, present and future.”
